Death of Princess Diana, 14th Anniversary

Today, August 31, marks the 14th anniversary of the sad, untimely death of Diana, Princess of Wales.  It seems like yesterday when the world watched as she married Prince Charles.  I remember bringing a small black and white TV set into my office in Manhattan and we all sat and watched the coverage of the royal wedding.  What are your memories of Princess Diana?

I'm selfish, impatient, and a little insecure. I make mistakes. I'm out of control, and at times I'm hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.
~ Marilyn Monroe

Having a "blue" day -- nothing like a great song and "old school" TV clip to brighten a day!  Here's Phil Collins singing the classic "Groovy Kind Of Love" on the Phil Donahue show -- how 80's!!!

Caramia's Collection WEDNESDAY TREASURE..........

Do you know a little girl who loves MINNE MOUSE?  This adorable jacket is currently on sale in my eBay store Caramia's Collection.

Power Of The Internet

I received this email today -- please forward and share it with friends and relatives:
   "I have a prayer request. There's a lady I've known forever. She's very sick.
On top of that, she's being abused by those she has given everything to.
Lies about her abound, and seem to come from all sides.
Just breaks my heart. Seems there's nothing I can do alone. But maybe, if we all join in, we can lift her up.
She's well over 200 years old, but way too young to die.
Her name is America... and I love her."

As New York and the rest of the USA prepares for the tenth anniversary of 9-11, I read this story on FaceBook and thought it important to share.

James Crane worked on the 101st floor of Tower 1 of the World Trade Center. He is blind so he has a golden retriever named Daisy. After the plane hit 20 stories below, James knew that he was doomed, so he let Daisy go, out of an act of love. She darted away into the darkened hallway. Choking on the fumes of the jet fuel and the smoke James was just waiting to die. About 30 minutes later, Daisy comes back along with James' boss, who Daisy just happened to pick up on floor 112.
On her first run of the building, she leads James, James' boss, and about 300 more people out of the doomed building. But she wasn't through yet, she knew there were others who were trapped. So, highly against James' wishes she ran back in the building.

On her second run, she saved 392 lives. Again she went back in. During this run, the building collapses. James hears about this and falls on his knees into tears. Against all known odds, Daisy makes it out alive, but this time she is carried by a firefighter. "She led us right to the people, before she got injured" the fireman explained.

Her final run saved another 273 lives. She suffered acute smoke inhalation, severe burns on all four paws, and a broken leg, but she saved 967 lives. Daisy is the first civilian Canine to win the Medal of Honor of New York City.

I read this story in today's newspaper and felt it needed to be shared.  Let's hope with the wide exposure available through the internet Jack will be reunited with his owner!

" After several years in New York City, Jack The Cat was bound for a new life in California with his brother Barry.  That is, until his adventure took a wild turn which has sparked a social network lashing against American Airlines.  On Thursday, Jack and Barry were kenneled and passed over to baggage handlers on Flight 177 from Kennedy Airport.  After clearing security,  their owner, who was moving out west after 22 years in the Big Apple to start a new job, received a call from an airline employee who told her Jack was lost in the inbound baggage claim area.  Eventually their owner boarded a later flight with Barry after an hour-long search came up empty.  She was assured that she’d get a phone call as soon as Jack was found."

Today in BEATLES History

On August 29, 1958, George Harrison joined the band the Quarrymen.  John Lennon and Paul McCartney were also members.  Who knew then that a few years later, music as everyone knew it would be changed forever?!

Time to start thinking of the colder days ahead -- here's Caramia's Collection's Sunday Treasure!

In celebration of Hurriane Irene's arrival and departure -- Barry Manilow singing "I Made It Through The Rain".
We made it through the rain in my neighborhood.  I'm sharing a photo of high tide causing a river on the street where I live -- thankfully no damage and the water receded almost as quickly as it arrived.  Thoughts out to all those who have gone through and are expecting Irene.

Bloomingdale's & Bergdorf Goodman Closed!

New York City is taking Hurricane Irene very seriously -- I have lived here my whole life and have never seen Bergdorf Goodman or Bloomingdale's boarded up!
Good luck to all of us on the East Coast!!

Good Night IRENE

.........more like GO AWAY IRENE, please!!!!

Eric Clapton sings Good Night Irene -- wow, I'm sure I'm not the only one who wishes this was over already, the waiting and uncertainty is horrible.

This has certainly been a strange week for this native New Yorker!  First tremors from an earthquake and now sitting nervously waiting for a direct hit from Hurricane Irene.  Though I appreciate the information, I have to say that the news coverage can be a bit overwhelming.  I totally understand better safe than sorry and that big stories are what news channels live for, but maybe toning down the dramatics of the newscasters would help those of us who are living through it!  Guys, some of us are really nervous, anxious -- however you want to describe it -- how about not talking about body bags being brought in -- do we really need to know this?  Talk about being an alarmist -- as my kids might say, "TMI"!

PLEASE READ:  I am re-posting this from FaceBook onto my blog to offer as much exposure as possible.  My good friend's daughter's friend is missing -- the story and photo below:

Catherine "Cat" Waller is missing, and her friends and family want to find her. Last seen July 7, 2011 in southern Mexico, but may be headed to Guatemala or South America (or possibly back to the USA). Help us keep our efforts coordinated - send anything you find out to this blog. If you have any information, have spoken to anyone who saw her recently, or have any tips or leads, please contact

SELLING on eBay..........

One of my favorite parts of being an eBay store owner is when a buyer takes the time to write me to tell me how pleased they are with their purchase.  That was what got me hooked on eBay after my very first sale.  Great feedback is always appreciated and when it is accompanied by a personal email it is even more special.  I received this email from a buyer who is also a seller who recently who purchased a beautiful Italian leather shoulder bag from Caramia's Collection, it made my day!

"It arrived today, and it is FABULOUS! Everything I had hoped for! I have to laugh ... you are the ONLY seller who wraps like I do! I couldn't believe how creative and inventive you were in sending the handbag! The orange tissue paper did not go unnoticed, either!

The bag is great, the shipping could not have been any faster, and it's been wonderful doing business with you!

Big cheers from Connecticut!"

ROD STEWART Sings Rhythm Of My Heart

Using FaceBook today to catch up with an old and dear friend.  We have been reminiscing about the day we met for a second time by coincidence on line in a freezing New York, many years ago, to meet our mutual "love" Rod Stewart at Coconuts music store.  Coconuts is long gone but from that moment on our friendship was sealed!

The "Baby Boomer" generation gave us all a wealth of fabulous music to love and cherish over the years.  One of my favorite groups was Crosby, Stills & Nash and at another time Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.  Today, David Crosby celebrates his 70th birthday -- Happy Birthday!!  In honor of his birthday, I'm sharing my favorite CS&N song, "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes".

Inspirational Quote Of The Day

I've had a particularly trying week dealing with a few of my eBay buyers and I just want to get it out there that there really is truth to "catching more flies with honey than vinegar".  Why not start on a positive note,  that just about any issue that might arise can be worked out?  EBay is a great place, but we are not running the world and seriously, how seriously can you take certain situations that happen on eBay with respect to the rest of the world?

My quote this week is for all but really directed to those who choose to be negative when there is truly no reason for it.  Hope you all have a great day!

"Happy thoughts attract happy people into your life."

A nice perk of having my own blog is that I can express my opinions.  I woke up this morning thinking I had a bad dream but it is true -- Kenny Ortega, the well know choreographer who did the original is planning a remake of the iconic, classic movie DIRTY DANCING.  All I can ask is "WHY"?  This movie is as fabulous today as it was when it first came out and is always bringing in new fans.  Aren't there enough remakes that flop?  Would love to know your opinion.......

In keeping with the theme of Lucy's 100th birthday, I found this great video featuring the fabulous fashions of the era.  Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I still love LUCY, how about you?  Lucille Ball was born 100 years ago in Jamestown, New York on August 6th and passed away in 1989.  Today, Lucy is still very much alive in the hearts of her old and new fans.  Who doesn't turn on an old episode of "I Love Lucy" and laugh as hard as they did the first time they saw it?  What's your favorite episode?

Happy Birthday Lucy, always in our hearts!

Today in BEATLES History

On August 5, 1966, the Beatles' album "Revolver" was released in the U.K.  The album hit number one on the charts.  To this day, the album remains as perfect and unique as it was when first released.

Yesterday in NYC, a peacock decided to take flight and perch on a high rise coop window ledge in Manhattan.  He was the talk of the town.  Thankfully, after spending the night, he returned home this morning unharmed.  Never a dull moment in the "Big Apple".
