New York has a "tradition" of having horses pull carriages, usually filled with tourists through Central Park and some of the streets of the city. As a native New Yorker and huge lover of all animals, I have always thought this was barbaric, certainly not romantic, and a terrible way to treat such beautiful creatures. Today's newspapers revealed that a gorgeous white horse fell over and died on 54th Street in Manhattan on its way to "work". I urge tourists not to encourage this "tradition" when they visit our fabulous city. No animal should have to meet its end like this. New York is an exciting place to visit but we definitely do have fumes and congestion in our city streets. Who knows what killed this horse but the streets are definitely not safe or meant for horses and carriages.
