Where Is BeeBop?
In an effort to keep BeeBop's name in cyberspace, I am reposting the latest post from Team BeeBop's FaceBook page. Surely someone who knows something will come forward and help bring BeeBop and his family back together. Let's start the new year off with a happy ending in memory of Jack the Cat who really brought the world a lot closer!
"Team BeeBop feels that as long as our hearts can stand this, we will keep looking for our BeeBop. But now more than ever, is the time that we really need the help! We've got the $1,000 funds and the best brain behind this mission to get the job done. Now we need just a few more pairs of hands and legs. We are still looking for a few more soldiers to come out on Saturday (bring your tape!) and ...help spread the word one more BIG time before Winter comes to Brooklyn. We have come so far and feel that BeeBop is right around the corner within our reach. Please, if anybody else can help out Bonnie Folz on Saturday, please call either me or her at 917-626-1374 or post here or pm me. Please if you can spare an hour or two of your time it will be greatly appreciated. Just think what stories you will have to tell at your NYE parties!!!! BeeBop is still waiting. Thank you everybody for your continued support and prayers. Thank you Jack!"

NEW YORK AT CHRISTMAS
As a native New Yorker, I may be slightly jaded, but I still think my city is the most beautiful place in the world at Christmas time. Here's a beautiful song to help celebrate Christmas and my town sung by the very talented Ed Rambeau.

PETER ALLEN and the ROCKETTES
One of my all time favorite performers is Peter Allen who sadly is no longer with us. Peter Allen was a true showman who had a desire to perform with one of the most iconic group of dancers known, the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes. I had the pleasure of seeing this show -- showman meets tradition. Here is a brief part of the performance.
To all visitors to New York, if you can, try to take in a Radio City Rockette show -- you won't be disappointed!!

CHANUKAH Potato Latkes Recipe
Chanukah, also known as the Festival of Lights begins at sundown on December 20th and lasts for eight days. Fried food is traditionally eaten on Chanukah in commemoration of the oil that miraculously burned for eight days when the Maccabees purified and rededicated the holy Temple in Jerusalem. One of the all time favorite foods of the Chanukah holiday is potato pancakes also called potato "latkes". Here's a great recipe and you don't have to celebrate Chanukah to enjoy them.
Happy Chanukah from Caramia's Collection!

Happy Chanukah from Caramia's Collection!
Recipe for Potato Latkes:
Ingredients:
- 5 potatoes
- 2 onions
- 3 eggs
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- between 1/4 to 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- oil for frying (canola is recommended)
Preparation:
1. Peel potatoes. Place in a bowl of cold water so they won’t turn brown.

3. Pour potato mixture into a large bowl. Add beaten eggs. Add salt and pepper. Add enough flour so that the mixture holds together.
4. Pour 1 inch of oil into a large, deep frying pan. Heat the oil over medium-high heat.
5. Carefully drop 1/4 cup of the potato mixture into the hot oil.
6. Flatten the pancake slightly so the center will cook.
7. Fry for several minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.

Where Is BeeBop?
Well, thanks to power of the internet, Jack the Cat was eventually found. Sadly, Jack passed away but as a result, more awareness has come to other missing pets. BeeBop is a cat who is still missing. Here is a summary of BeeBop's story:
"$500 REWARD CASH REWARD. NO QUESTIONS ASKED. BEEBOP HAS BEEN MISSING OVER 5 MONTHS IN BROOKLYN, NY, USA. Please help us find BeeBop. Missing since June 28, 2011 in Brooklyn Heights, vicinity of Columbia Place/Willow Place/State Street, 2-1/2 yr old skittish neutered half-feral/domesticated male. Black body & legs, white belly, white chin with distinctive marking on right side of face. His feet are white and his 2 front paws are different and white-tipped. He got scared of the movers and jumped out through the screen window. He was found 2 days later on July 1, 2011 in the basement of the Heights Players theater around the corner where he was being held for me but was allegedly let out!!! We believe he is still in the area. NO QUESTIONS ASKED!!! He's very shy, not the type of cat to be walking around sitting on a stoop. He could be hiding under your bed. PLEASE CHECK! I have had him since he was 4 weeks old. PLEASE HELP ME FIND HIM! WILL DO ANYTHING TO HAVE OUR BABY BOY BACK!!! THANK YOU." This is BeeBop, please help reunite BeeBop with his family: Map of where BeeBop disappeared: |

I'm always looking at nails and how creative some people can be. I came across this fun tutorial on how to create "bear tracks" on your nails. What's super special with this look is that it looks great on those of us who don't have long nails. What do you think, are you going to try this?

Neil Diamond Sings The Chanukah Song
'Tis the season to deck the halls and decorate the trees, but let us not forget our friends who do not celebrate Christmas. Christmas music fills the stores as we shop and Merry Christmas wishes greet all of us from store clerks, service people and friends. There are not many songs celebrating Chanukah but here is one, originally done by Adam Sandler, here sung by one of my favorites Neil Diamond. To all who will celebrate the start of the Festival of Lights in less than two weeks, Happy Chanukah!

Missing John Lennon
It amazes me that 31 years have gone by since the senseless murder of John Lennon. I remember exactly where I was and the horrific moment when the newscaster cut into Monday Night Football to make the announcement. I remember walking into my office the next day, my eyes swollen from crying and talking to a co-worker who I had no idea was also a fan. We became best friends and have remained so, John Lennon brought us together.
John Lennon was a generous, charitable man and I consider myself fortunate to have been able to see him in concert when he performed at a charity event, an experience I will never forget.
Thirty-one years later, I still miss the genius of John Lennon and wonder what would have been had he lived.

Dr. Nancy Snyderman Knocks eBay Commercials
My background noise in the mornings usually includes the Today Show. Today's episode featured a panel of three including Dr. Nancy Snyderman and they were asked "what bugs you the most about the holidays?". Dr. Snyderman, a prominent doctor, replied "I can't stand the eBay commercials, they are so over-the-top and offensive."! Well, Dr. Snyderman, I am offended by your silly comment! There are many people who make their living on eBay and in this awful economy, there are many people who turn to eBay to earn an extra few dollars to make ends meet. We are not all doctors and/or professionals and quite frankly, your comment was snide and uncalled for. EBay's commercials may or may not be top of the line, but eBay has made an effort to drive business to its site in these horrific economic times. What good can come of a comment like yours? Maybe you should read the newspapers. There were quite a few disturbing Black Friday stories that certainly warranted being spoken about, certainly more disturbing than an eBay commercial!
World AIDS Day 2011
Today, December 1, 2011 is World AIDS Day. We have been living under the cloud of this horrible disease for too long. In the '80's when I first heard of this disease, I later lost a co-worker to it.
Today is an opportunity for people to unite in the fight against HIV/AIDS. It is a day to remember the people we have lost, to be thankful for accomplishments made in the fight but also to keep the awareness that the fight against AIDS must not stop.

I saw this recipe being prepared by the chef of New York City restaurant -- it looks great, can't wait to try it for Thanksgiving.
Brussels Sprouts
Ingredients:
Directions:
Cook the Brussels sprouts in 2 batches. Heat a large skillet or dutch oven on high heat. Add 3 tablespoons of the oil, when just about to smoke, add half of the Brussels sprouts, stir to coat and brown the sprouts, about 5 minutes. Remove from pan, into a shallow bowl, sprinkle with salt and repeat with 3 more tablespoons of the oil, this time over medium-high heat.

REGIS PHILBIN Gets Key to New York City
I've spent a good portion of my adult life watching and not watching Regis Philbin on morning television. Usually, I keep the TV on as background noise. I've always found him to be entertaining, his co-hosts, not so much. My feeling has been when his co-hosts get real comfortable, they seem to get a little full of themselves, whereas Regis, in my eyes has always remained a humble man, kind of wondering himself how he got to be "Reege" and so beloved. So, today, I tuned in to watch his send off and was drawn in. Regis is an averge New Yorker who shot for the stars and made it! Good for him!! Today, he looked truly honored when New York's Mayor Bloomberg presented him with the key to the city. I think mornings will be a little less fun without "Reege" and as one who has followed his career, I wish him the best in whatever he does. As for watching the show, post Regis, I don't think so. How about you?

FLY AWAY by Ed Rambeau
How many times in one's life do we get to meet someone whose talent we admire from afar? I fell in love with a song called "Concrete & Clay" back in the '60's. Who knew years later I would become friends with the very talented man who sang that song! Ed Rambeau, known as Eddie Rambeau back then not only has written songs for himself, but for others over the years. He is a talented artist, photographer and author as well and has mastered putting together beautiful videos to watch as you listen to his music. Here is a favorite song of mine, originally sung by Peter Allen. I love Ed's version, hope you do too.
Virtual Online Learning & Me
Well, I am not the group type, don't like participating or joining anything, but my membership in Virtual Online Learning has brought out a side of me I didn't know existed. Help Find BeeBop the Missing Cat!
Re-posting a plea from the owners of BeeBop, especially to Brooklyn residents, but anyone willing to help is welcome!
"At this time with the cold weather quickly approaching, Team BeeBop is going to send out an official plea! Could everybody who has been following this page (and there are quite a bit of you!) please take the time out to drop a friendly note to the Editor of the free Brooklyn Paper. You will see it is listed under our "Likes." This paper comes out once a week in print and it is hard to miss in all... of Brooklyn. We have been trying to get a story in about BeeBop for the last month. I have already spoken with the reporter, as well as friends and rescue personnel who also spoke with her. The Editor's email is: GKuntzman@CNGLocal.com. The kind reporter is kbriquelet@CNGLocal.com and she LOVES animals! Thanks everybody and thank you Jack."
Flight 587, My Memories
Today is the 10th anniversary of the second deadliest U.S. aviation disaster, the crash of Flight 587 in Belle Harbor, NY.
I will never forget that day, just two months after 9/11, I heard a horrible noise, my house shook and the electricity went out. My mind raced wondering what had happened -- could a power cable have exploded? A few minutes later, my father called me from Florida, he had seen on the local news that a plane crashed a short distance from my home! Not really comprehending the magnitude of what he was saying, I got in my car with my daughter to check on her friend who lived closer to the crash site and we could not get near it. I turned on the radio thinking I would hear that a propeller plane had gone down, only to learn that it was an American Airlines Airbus. My daughter and I parked the car and walked to the scene in this very small close knit community we live in. For hours, we did not know the fate of her friend or his family, we only knew that everyone on the plane had perished and that more than likely so did people on the ground. We watched the scene in total disbelief -- it looked like a scene from a disaster movie, this could not be happening!
But it was happening, five people on the ground died as well. My daughter's friend and his family were safe. Every year since, there is a ceremony here to remember the victims. A permanent memorial has been erected and homes that were destroyed have been rebuilt.
I will never forget that day and send my deepest condolences out to the surviving family members and friends of those who were lost on this tragic day.

Where is BeeBop? -- Update
As of today, November 9th, BeeBop is still missing. This is information posted by his owners -- they are not giving up hope and there is still a reward for his return. Brooklyn Heights residents, please keep your eyes open for this beloved pet:
Team BeeBop is still on the prowl and on the hunt for BeeBop. Despite our obtacles, we will never give up. We view today's disappointment as a blessing because it confirms what we've thought all along and what the seers say...BeeBop is most likely being cared for by somebody else very close to where he went missing. We will stay strong despite this and feel comfort that he is being fed and kept... warm. We will just keep reposting on-line and reposting outside until we reach our next level.....thank you Jack! Team BeeBop could probably use a really good stiff drink tonight but instead we will try to go bed very early....Goodnight everybody and thanks for your kind comments and continued prayers. As PP says, Paws to the Sky.

RIP Jack
It is time for airlines to revamp their rules for how baggage is handled. The airline industry has not only being ripping off their customers by demanding ridiculous fees for "real" luggage but the way that traveling pets are treated is disgraceful. The recent disaster created by American Airlines in the treatment of Jack the Cat should be a huge wake up call to the industry! Animals are living beings, they are not baggage! If an airline cannot provide a safe travel environment for a pet, they should stop thinking about the mighty dollar and honestly tell a potential passenger the truth. Traveling with a pet that gets put in cargo is inhumane! Rest in peace Jack and may no other animal experience the horror of what you endured in the last two months of your life.

After following the story of Jack the Cat and what appeared to be a happy ending when Jack was found alive, it is with great sadness that I have just read that Jack has passed away. Rest in peace Jack and sincerest condolences to his family, friends and the "army" of supporters who did not give up hope that he would be found alive.

CHANEL Shade Parade
When my kids were small I had a trick to get their mind off visits to the doctor. I would put Barbie shoes on my fingers and do a "dance" which would usually make them laugh and put them in a different frame of mind.
I recently saw this new Chanel nail polish campaign and could not help remember the days I spent "dancing" with Barbie shoes! Not only did this commercial bring back great memories, it is also entertaining and as far as I see, brilliant! Kudos to Chanel's advertising agency on a job well done! Take a look and see for yourself......

Where is BeeBop?
Jack The Cat has been found thanks to the will of people and the power of the internet. An alert has been issued by the friends of Jack to help another family in Brooklyn Heights, NY find their beloved cat BeeBop who went missing in June. As a blogger and animal lover, I feel the need to help in whatever way I can. Here is BeeBop's story. Please go to his FaceBook Page, Where is BeeBop? and hopefully we can help reunite him with his family too.

Humane Euthanasia?
A recent news story touched my animal loving nerve. Recently an unnamed, unwanted Beagle mix dog was dropped off at an Alabama pound. Sadly this dog's fate was to enter the gas chamber, a carbon monoxide filled stainless-steel box with a group of other unwanted, unloved animals. Shockingly, when the "chamber" was opened after the dogs were "put to sleep" permanently, this little dog walked out and has since been named "Daniel". In looking into this, I found that only three animals have survived this experience at this particular Alabama facility in the last 12 years. Though I am overjoyed that three animals survived this horrible fate, what I want to know is how humane is this form of ending an unwanted animal's life if they can actually survive? How brutal must the experience be for the animal to struggle through this horror? I truly understand the plight of animal over-population but cannot fathom why, if an animal's life must be ended for whatever reason, it is not done quickly and quietly with the least amount of stress. Surely we as a "humane" society owe this much to a defenseless animal! Daniel has since been flown to New Jersey and is being fostered until a permanent home is found for him. Why does it take a story like this to make people wake up and offer to foster and adopt unwanted animals? How many more animals have survived similar circumstances, not made the newspapers, only to relive the experience with a permanent outcome?

JACK The CAT FOUND
I am very happy to be able to help spread the happy news that Jack the Cat who "went missing" at the Amerrican Airlines terminal at New York's JFK Airport has been found! Jack is not in the best of health as a result of his ordeal but is under the care of a veterinarian and will soon be reunited with his owner.
This story is a perfect example of the power of the internet and the goodwill of people!

New York Carriage Horse Dies
New York has a "tradition" of having horses pull carriages, usually filled with tourists through Central Park and some of the streets of the city. As a native New Yorker and huge lover of all animals, I have always thought this was barbaric, certainly not romantic, and a terrible way to treat such beautiful creatures. Today's newspapers revealed that a gorgeous white horse fell over and died on 54th Street in Manhattan on its way to "work". I urge tourists not to encourage this "tradition" when they visit our fabulous city. No animal should have to meet its end like this. New York is an exciting place to visit but we definitely do have fumes and congestion in our city streets. Who knows what killed this horse but the streets are definitely not safe or meant for horses and carriages.
